
Lakers Gather for the 2019 Great Lake State Weekend
Members of the community, along with past, current, and future Lakers, all gathered together during the Laker Tailgate event on Saturday, Oct. 12 on LSSU’s campus in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Attendees enjoyed refreshments, campfires, cornhole tournament, face painting, and more. LSSU’s current and former mascots made their appearance to celebrate with participants before the hockey game.

Executive Director of the Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency Visits LSSU
Lake Superior State University welcomed Andrew Brisbo, Executive Director of the Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA), to campus for a seminar on Marijuana Regulation in Michigan. The MRA oversees the development of the burgeoning cannabis industry in Michigan. Students, faculty, administration, and members of the community attended the seminar to hear Brisbo speak.

LSSU Mourns Loss of Student
On October 13, 2019, Lake Superior State University lost a member of our family in a tragic car accident due to hazardous conditions on I-75. Parker Dagenais, a junior Kinesiology student, concentrating in Sports and Fitness Management, from Fenton, MI passed away at the scene. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, in Fenton, MI.

Memorial Award Presented to Future Educator
Lake Superior State University, officials from U.S. Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie, and members of a local family marked the 10th anniversary of the named fund’s creation with the presentation of the 2019 Amy Ignatowski Memorial Award.

Michigan Community Conversation
The Freshwater Stewardship Corps (FSC) through the Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE), is co-hosting a Community Conversation with the LSSU Political Science Club on Tuesday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Crow’s Nest in the Walker Cisler Center at Lake Superior State University.

LSSU Rises to the Matching Gift Challenge for CFRE
With construction starting on a new cutting-edge facility for Lake Superior State University in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, the LSSU Foundation announced this week, that it has met the goal for the ‘Fund to the Finish Line’ challenge to help fund the $14.5 million project to create the Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE).

The Mystical Arts of Tibet
The weeklong residency of The Mystical Arts of Tibet begins with opening ceremonies at noon on October 28 at Lake Superior State University, and culminates in a not to be missed performance of Sacred Music Sacred Dance for World Healing on November 1 at the Arts Center. In addition to the famed multiphonic singers of Tibet’s Drepung Loseling Monastery performing, the Tibetan Monks will also create a Mandala Sand Painting, host a lecture series, and family-friendly performances for local area schools. Tibet: Magical Land of Spiritual Wonders photo exhibit will also be running in conjunction with the festivities at the Arts Center Gallery throughout the week.

Four Alumni to be Recognized During Great Lake State Weekend
Lake Superior State University and the LSSU Alumni Association will pay tribute to four highly accomplished alumni and friends at the annual Alumni Awards Banquet beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11th in the Walker Cisler Center as part of Great Lake State Weekend 2019.
